Demographic Trends, Policy Influences, and Economic Effects in China and India Through 2025

Abstract

China and India have the two largest populations in the world; each has over a billion people. The population of China is currently larger than that of India, but with its higher population growth rate, India's population size is projected to surpass China's in 2025. China's lower fertility rate and longer life expectancy have led to a population that is considerably older than India's.
