DLA Troop Support, Clothing & Textiles, DOD Emall Tent Superstore

Abstract

In 2010, the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia was renamed DLA Troop Support. Clothing & Textiles (C&T) is a component of DLA Troop Support, a primary level field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). In Fiscal Year 2010, C&T's sales of clothing, textiles, and equipment to military personnel worldwide surpassed $2.1 billion. While buying more than 8,000 different items ranging from uniforms, footwear, and undergarments to ecclesiastical items, individual equipment, flags, and tents, C&T manages over 31,000 line items when individual sizes are factored into the item mix. On June 4, 1998, the development of Basecamp Website began. The primary focus was Standard Tents and COTS information was limited to basic data with links to the vendors' webpages. In June 2007, there was a transition to DOD Emall. Enhancements allow customers to compare and research shelters as turn-key systems and Mil-Spec solution sets. Customers are able to view shelters, lighting, flooring, HVAC, and power generation equipment; save to a shopping basket; and order their system with one click. One of Emall's specialty stores is the Tent Superstore, which provides customers with thumbnails that provide high-resolution diagrams of tent components, detailed component part descriptions, a layered browser environment, and a spare/replacement parts link. Any tent system configuration can be saved and emailed to potential customers. Emall also provides technical and safety comparison data similar to consumer publications. Customers also have access to test report results. Emall allows the customer to make an educated decision on alternate COTS shelters in the event that a JOCOTAS Standard Tent is on backorder.
