Asbestos Workshop: Sampling, Analysis, and Risk Assessment

Abstract

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring pliant and fibrous mineral with heat-resistant properties. Because of these properties, it was used in a variety of building and shipbuilding materials before the dangers of the material were understood. Asbestos fibers are inhaled and remain in the lungs and in the pleural cavity holding the lungs, causing scarring and disease. This briefing looks at different tests protocols and asbestos risk calculation.
