Memorial Medical Center Nursing Clinical Simulation Laboratory

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a program of systematic, brief training in role appropriate team behaviors covering key communication, leadership, and team member behaviors for ad hoc emergency medical care teams and to determine whether training in these behaviors results in improved individual and team communication, leadership, and team member performance in simulated emergency care situations regularly experienced by trauma and emergency department medical care teams. In project year three we have completed all data collection, analyzed and interpreted the data, written a draft of the primary manuscript, presented the results at annual national professional meetings for trauma, and emergency medicine and regional meetings of the Association for American Medical Colleges. We have also provided didactic training for health care professionals that were not trained during the original training. We are in the process of preparing the final project report for submission in December 2012.
