Proteomics of Peripheral Leukocytes in Patients with Elevated Serum Levels of PSA

Abstract

During this third year of research, we have analyzed protein abundance levels of CD4+ T-lymphocytes and demonstrated that in accordance with our original hypothesis, we are able to discriminate between prostate cancer and benign prostate disease in patients with an elevated PSA level. A manuscript detailing these results is being prepared. Additionally, we explored the proteomes of lymphocytes from mice, and have found that the procedures involved with sample procurement are less robust than for the human samples, encouraging us to focus on the human samples. We remain optimistic that we could potentially lay the groundwork for a test that would significantly reduce the number of prostate biopsies performed annually.
