Factors Influencing the Nearshore Sound-Scattering Layer in Hawaiian Waters
Abstract
Our long-term goal is to develop the capability to predict the spatial dimensions and temporal occurance of aggregations of the nearshore sound-scattering layer in the coastal ocean. Our objectives are (1) to quantify aggregations of the nearshore sound-scattering layer around Hawaii, (2) to identify the physical and optical characteristics associated with these aggregations, and use this information, and (3) to develop the capability to predict the occurrence of the nearshore scattering layer in Hawaiian waters.
