Leishmania Surveillance and Diagnostic Capability in Support of the Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System (JBAIDS) and Leishmania Vector Surveillance

Abstract

The Entomology Department and Basic Science Laboratory, USAMRU-K Field Station at Kisumu completed project activities through a resource sharing arrangement with the 59th MDW. Testing of the Leishmania epidemiology assay panel is completed for RAPID/JBAIDS-based detection assays, Leishmania genus (LEIS), visceral genotype (LVL), and human pathogenic (LHL). Test results provided valuable insight into the need to refine performance the LHL assay and the need to develop novel and unique sample preparation methodologies. Application for patent protection of this DoD intellectual property is underway.
