Nonlinear Wave Propagation

Abstract

The PI's research program in nonlinear wave propagation is broad based and very active. There have been a number of important research contributions carried out as part of the effort funded by the Air Force. During the period 1 March 2009 -- 30 November 2011, fourteen papers were published in refereed journals,. In addition one refereed book and one refereed conference proceeding were published and thirty one invited lectures were given. The key results and research directions are described in the final report. Full details can be found in our research papers which are also listed at the end of this report. New models of mode-locked lasers were developed and studied. Investigations of nonlinear waves in photonic lattices led to new mathematical models which explain experimental observations. New results associated with dark solitons were obtained and applied to mode-locked lasers. Dispersive shock waves were analyzed and results compared favorably with experiments.
