Optical Limiting: An Overview State of the Art Report

Abstract

This report intends to elucidate to the non expert in the field of optical limiting, the physical phenomena responsible for optical limiting behavior and the measurements routinely made to characterize the performance of nonlinear materials. A simplified configuration of these materials as protective optical systems, is illustrated. The report also provides a sketchy background on work in the field of molecular engineering, that enhances the performance of nonlinear materials and adapts them to real world applications.
