Wide Area Recovery and Resiliency Program (WARRP) Knowledge Enhancement Events: Agricultural Waste Disposal Workshop After Action Report

Abstract

The purpose of the Agricultural Waste Disposal Group was to increase knowledge on the key elements related to agricultural disposal in the recovery process following a wide area catastrophic incident. This workshop brought together multi-interests of the private sector and government, needed for long-term resiliency and recovery efforts. While this workshop focused on a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) scenario, participants learned how to easily apply their knowledge to other incidents. In this workshop, participants learned about the epidemiology of FMD including the economic impact; were taught the latest developments in carcass disposal tool technologies; were provided an experience to practice hands-on with various tools including a decision matrix and disposal tool tree and checklist; and expanding awareness of Federal, state, and local plan guidance/legislation. Most importantly, participants expanded their professional network with other individuals in the agricultural community enabling them to think long-term about the process of recovery from any type of incident.
