Automatic Change Detection in Static Imagery (Detection automatique des changements pour l'imagerie statique)
Abstract
Modern imagery sources such as SAR, MSI, HSI, EO and IR are available in ever increasing quantities and spatial/temporal resolutions and are relied on more and more to support vital defence and security objectives. Consequently, the goal of developing effective automatic/assisted methods for alleviating the resulting "data deluge". Automatic change detection, in many ways a more soluble problem than ATR, is proving highly promising as a technique for exploiting this imagery in an efficient enough manner to support time-sensitive and resource-limited operations. A number of methods are currently being investigated, ranging from pixel-based methods through to object based techniques. In many of these, researchers are often faced with the same problems and there exists great repositories of knowledge and expertise that have the potential to be shared. Currently there is very little communication, coherence or common frames of reference between international groups and there are few agreed data sets or performance metrics against which to compare the effectiveness of algorithms. This international workshop brought together the key researchers in this field and facilitate an open and rigorous exposition and discussion of the issues and opportunities for future collaboration. Of particular interest will be the future potential of spatio-spectral methods and cross-over between fields (e.g. defence, security, medical).
