FANTOM: Algorithm-Architecture Codesign for High-Performance Embedded Signal and Image Processing Systems

Abstract

This is the final report of project FANTOM, which was a part of the DESA program supported by the DSO office, DARPA, during the period between May 2005 and Aug. 2009, with a no-cost extension to Feb. 2010. The project team successfully designed, developed and delivered a novel algorithm-architecture co-design platform for semi-automatic or automatic production of signal and image application-on-a-chip (AOC), to be embedded in a custom system. This reports describes the technical gaps and problems the research project identified and addressed, summaries the major scientific results, inventions and engineering accomplishments, introduces successful employments of the FANTOM system as well as the methodology, and finally discuss on the impacts and implification of the research results. The report concludes with additional comments to relevant program mangers as well as tax payers.
