Plasmonic Nanosensors for Chemical Warfare Agents

Abstract

During the period of 12/19/12 02/02/13 of Contract # W911NF-13-C-0017 we performed the following. We developed a ROC (Receiver Operator Characteristic) curve for benzenethiol (BT) on a polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) substrate coated with gold nanoparticles (iFyber substrate). The ROC curve indicates detection levels around 2 x 10-8 ppm of the CWA agent simulant. This is ~ 200x above the target detection level in air. The difficulty and pathway to improved detection is discussed.
