AGOR 28: SIO Shipyard Representative Bi-Weekly Progress Report

Abstract

AGORs 27 and 28 are new "Ocean Class" research vessels being built at the Dakota Creek Industries Inc. (DCI) of Anacortes, WA shipyard under the supervision of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), with delivery of AGOR 27 schedule for late 2014 and AGOR 28 in 2015. AGOR 27, first of the class, will be named after Neil Armstrong. AGOR 28, second of the class, will become the R/V Sally Ride. Operators have been tasked with recommending the type of seawater piping anti-fouling system and which sea chests it should serve. The ion system seems to have the advantage as it will transport the copper ions through the entire system, including the stern tubes via the shaft cooling water. Fabrication of the Sally Ride forward bow sub-assemble continues with anchor pockets complete. Main deck has landed on the Sally Ride. Sally Ride pilot house deck and bulkheads have been erected.
