The Integration of a Smart Stage into Current Dive Ships of the Navy

Abstract

The Navy s Dive and Salvage community is interested in upgrading their current dive stage. The present dive stage is a basic steel cage that is primarily used as a mode of transport from the surface of the water to a maximum depth of 300 feet. How would a new SMART stage system that incorporates lighting, video feed and hydraulics into the cage affect the operational effectiveness of the dive and salvage community? Can this new system be integrated into current dive ships? What are the impacts for variation of requirements for integrating this system in to current ships? This thesis will serve as a proof of concept for integrating a SMART Stage dive cage onto current naval dive ships. This will be performed by conducting a stakeholder analysis of the system to ensure that it meets or exceeds the needs of the dive and salvage community. In addition, a functional requirements analysis will be conducted for integration of the system.
