Don't Forget About Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

Sub Sahara Africa faces a growing crisis of radical Islamic group expansion and increase internal instability. Failure of the United States to support the security development of Mali and Nigeria risks continuing the cycle of instability plaguing Somalia. Help must take the form of a long term commitment to the economic, political and security development of a still developing and unstable region of the world. Africa must not suffer the consequence of United States shifting strategic interest to the Pacific. Continuing the trend of episodic interest and limited engagement in Sub Saharan Africa places the security of the people of the United States at risk.
