Building Strategic Leaders in the Officer Core from Day One

Abstract

Given today s strategic environment and the demand for specific skills and competencies necessary to be an effective officer, the Army must make changes to certain aspects of its current officer training and education strategy, in order to streamline the process and focus on the development of its junior leaders earlier in their career. The benefits of doing this will not only produce a better prepared officer who is more effective in the current operating environment, but it will produce an officer who possesses the necessary skills to be further developed over the span of their career as they prepare to become a future strategic leader in the Army of 2030.
