Seawall-Beach Interaction: A Comparison of Monitoring Locations

Abstract

Research is under way to examine the influence of coastal armoring on beaches. This research involves literature reviews, ongoing long-term beach profile monitoring, and statistical analyses of collected data to investigate the true impacts of seawalls on beaches. Results of this research will address some of the classic questions associated with seawall and beach interaction, including (but not limited to): Do seawalls accelerate beach erosion?; Does the presence of seawalls alter the nearshore profile system?; Do seawalls impede post-storm beach recovery?
