Vigilant Spirit Control Station (VSCS) - The Face of COUNTER

Abstract

The basic concept behind the Cooperative Operations in Urban Terrain (COUNTER) program was one of layered sensing involving a small Unmanned Air System (UAS) over an urban area that was capable of dispensing smaller Micro UAS's to fly at lower altitudes and take closer looks at partially obscured targets. This paper focuses on the Vigilant Spirit Control Station user interface that was enhanced to allow one operator to simultaneously control multiple UAS's during COUNTER simulations and flight tests.
