Report 11HL: Technologies for Trusted Maritime Situational Awareness

Abstract

The Applied Research Project (ARP) titled "Technologies for Trusted Maritime Situational Awareness" and denoted 11HL, was initiated under the 1H thrust "Maritime Domain Awareness" in April 2008. This document is the final report for this 3-year project. The project focused on technologies that provide data and information in support of Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA). The technologies were considered relative to their contribution to the creation of trust. Some of the activities included the utilization of a vessel's Automatic Identification System (AIS) messages for camera cuing and vessel imagery collection; investigations involving AIS utilization for visualizing surveillance regions, consistency checking as it relates to trust enhancement, and defining probabilistic vessel tracks between AIS messages; investigations into architectures relevant to the trusted distribution of MSA data; and investigations into the trust implications of evolving data sources and system architectures. This report provides an overview of the 11HL project using previously reported results, and listings of reports and papers that resulted from 11HL.
