Reliability, Durability and Packaging of Fibre Bragg Gratings for Large-Scale Structural Health Monitoring of Defence Platforms

Abstract

This report documents an experimental program of work which investigates the reliability and durability of fibre Bragg gratings under tensile loading conditions and the factors which contribute to their ultimate performance. In addition, methodologies for broad-area permanent attachment of FBG sensing arrays are also investigated and two techniques are presented for proposed application in the structural health monitoring of Defence platforms.
