Invited Lectures from a Spatial Orientation Symposium in Honor of Frederick Guedry, Day 1
Abstract
This report contains a transcript of the invited lectures comprising day 1 of a Spatial Orientation Symposium in honor of Dr. Frederick Guedry, held at the Institute of Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) in Pensacola, FL on 19-20 November 2010. The conference was sponsored by the Coalition Warfare Program of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics. It was organized by Drs. Angus Rupert and Ben Lawson (USAARL) and Drs. Anil Raj and Ken Ford (IHMC). This report opens with the transcript of a speech by Dr. Rupert, who provides some little-known facts about Fred Guedry and gives an overview of the topics and speakers. The subsequent lectures by Drs. Laurence Young, Charles Oman, Jan Holly, Braden McGrath, Wallace Grant, and Ian Curthoys focus on the modeling and neuroscience of vestibular structure, function, reflexes, and orientation perceptions.
