Department of Defense Inspector General's Report on the 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission's Report Recommendation #193 Regarding Cecil Field, Florida

Abstract

The Base Closure and Realignment Commission (the Commission) issued a report of findings and recommendations to you on September 8, 2005, which you approved on September 15, 2005. Congress allowed the report to pass into law on November 9, 2005. The Commission's actions were taken under the authority of Public Law 101-510, ''Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990," as amended. This letter is provided in response to the Commission's Report Recommendation# 193 related to the former Naval Air Station (NAS) Cecil Field, Florida, which contained three criteria. The State of Florida did not take action to satisfy the three criteria. I received a letter from the Governor of Florida, dated January 22, 2007 (Enclosure 1).
