Third International Conference on the Effects of Noise on Aquatic Life

Abstract

The long-term goal of this project was to conduct an international meeting in August 2013 that would bring together investigators, regulators, industry and government representatives, representatives of environmental groups, and the public to discuss the effects of noise on aquatic life. The meeting was successfully held in Budapest, Hungary, in August 2013. Over 250 people from 22 countries attended, of which 53% were male and 46% female. These included students, faculty, investigators, etc. Over 150 papers were presented. These were in oral format or posters, with over 60 of the posters also presented in short talks that were very well received. The proceedings of the meeting, including papers based on all talks, will be published in 2014 by Springer. The meeting was exceptionally well received and a great deal of information was shared and a good deal of networking took place. The was immediate interest in a 4th meeting, which is likely to take place in 2016.
