The AFRL Line-Imaging ORVIS

Abstract

AFRL/RWMW has built a new diagnostic tool for shock-wave studies. The diagnostic tool is called ORVIS, and is capable of tracking very high velocities with high temporal resolution. The tool also is spatially resolved in one dimension, so that the velocities along a line of material are tracked. This report describes the physical layout of the system, a description of the operational theory and principles, guidelines for setup and usage, and specifics about key components of the system.
