United States Constabulary in Post-World War Two Germany: What Can Cowboys Tell Us About Stability Operations Today?

Abstract

The U.S. Army Constabulary proved to be an effective stabilizing force in post-war Germany. High quality training and selective personnel assignment ensured the effectiveness of the unit. By applying the lessons learned from the Constabulary. especially regarding training, US-PRTs in Afghanistan can greatly improve their impact as tools of U.S. national policy.
