Infrared Complex Optical Constants of GB, GF, HD, HN1, and VX

Abstract

This report discusses the complex optical constants (^n=n + ik) ) of several nerve agents and vesicants in the mid-infrared region. The measurements were made using infrared variable-angle spectral ellipsometry. Ellipsometry with attenuated total reflection permits the determination of both optical constants in a single measurement. This contrasts with the more traditional methods of obtaining the optical constants using transmission measurements that required the real refractive index to be extrapolated outside of the measured range.
