Failure in Campaign Design: The British Defeat at New Orleans December 1814 - January 1814

Abstract

A campaign is a series of related military operations aimed at accomplishing a strategic or operational objective within a given time and space. The British continued to execute a campaign plan even after a series of key tactical events in that plan failed to occur. The British just moved past each evolving event that did not occur according to the plan as if each part was optional to achieve the strategic goal. Although a new plan was formed it failed to address the original concerns of the campaign.
