The 21st Century Marine Expeditionary Unit

Abstract

The MEU has averaged fulfilling under sixty-five percent of Combatant Commanders' requirements over the past five years and these requirements are likely to increase in the future. The MEU is not trained, manned or equipped to face the threats that exist on the high-end of ROMO, It was not designed to execute a 21st Century amphibious assault against a hybrid threat and a failure to address this issue could have significant consequences in the future. A restructured 21st Century MEU, trained, manned, and equipped with both of these shortfalls in mind, is the solution.
