Could Wind or Solar Energy Replace Diesel Generators for Aviation Ground Maintenance Operations?

Abstract

The USMC is working to reduce their energy and logistic footprints, as a result, the USMC is looking fro green alternatives to reduce their dependency on fossil fuels. Wind and solar power, although two of the cleanest sources of energy, fall short of being the right alternatives to replace the use of diesel generators by the USMC to supply external power for their aviation ground maintenance operations. These two alternatives, when used independently. present several challenges related to their electricity generation capacity, thus rendering them ineffective and inefficient In addition to these challenges, both systems have other issues when installed in the vicinity of airfields.
