Army Operations in China. December 1941 - December 1943
Abstract
This monograph is one of a series prepared under instructions from the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers to the Japanese Government (SCAPIN No. 126, 12 Oct 1945). The series covers not only the operations of the Japanese armed forces during World War II, but also their operations in China and Manchuria which preceded the world conflict. The studies were written by former officers of the Japanese Army and Navy under the supervision of the Historical Records Section of the First (Army) and Second (Navy) Demobilization Bureaus of the Japanese Government. Original manuscripts were translated by U.S. Army translation service. Extensive editing was accomplished by the Japanese Research Division of the Office of the Military History Officer, Headquarters, United States Army Forces, Far East and Eighth United States Army (Rear). This monograph describe military operations in the China Theater from the time of the outbreak of the Pacific war until the end of 1943. Under the direction of the Reports and Statistical Section of the Demobilization Bureau, the basic manuscript was written by former Lt Col Heizo Ishiwari, a former member of the War History Section of the Army General Staff, assisted by the following former officers: Colonel Seitaro Takei and Major Sentaro Azuma of the 11th Army Lt Cols Hideo Ono and Kenji Shindo of the 13th Army and Colonel Chiyoshi Shimoda of the 23d Army from official telegrams, notes and personal recollections.
