Field Validation of Visual Cleaning Performance Indicator (VCPI) Technology

Abstract

Battelle, in collaboration with engineers at Hill Air Force Base, the Air Force Research Laborat01y, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center- Carderock Division have developed and field tested a Visual Cleaning Performance Indicator (VCPI) technology as a means to verify surface cleanliness on aluminum and painted steel alloys. The VCPI technology represents a significantly new, environmentally acceptable method of inspecting and validating the cleaning performance of commercial cleaners and efficiency of large area DoD cleaning operations. This ESTCP project served to demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of VCPI, as well as develop DoD end-use support for an inexpensive in-situ cleaning verification method.
