Environmental Assessment for the Proposed Construction of a H-70 Fuel Storage Facility and a Medical Pharmacy

Abstract

This EA evaluates the potential environmental consequences of constructing and operating an H-70 fuel storage facility and a medical pharmacy at BAFB, to (1) to provide storage and limited repair space for H-70 fuel canisters in a location near airfield operations and sufficiently outside of noncompatible land uses and (2) to provide an on-installation, centrally located alternative for medical pharmaceutical needs to military personnel, their dependents, and military retirees in the Denver metropolitan area. These two actions are being proposed simultaneously in this EA to better identify and address potential cumulative impacts from these proposed construction activities and additional future activities on BAFB. The proposed action and alternatives addressed in this EA include (1) construction/operation of an H-70 fuel storage facility at the west end of the main ramp, demolition of the existing H-70 fuel storage facility Building 310, and the construction/operation of a medical pharmacy adjacent the to BAFB commissary/exchange (Proposed Action); (2) construction/operation of an H-70 fuel storage facility at the west end of the main ramp, demolition of the existing H-70 fuel storage facility Building 310, and the construction/operation of a medical pharmacy adjacent to Building 600 (Alternative 1); and (3) the no action alternative. This EA has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act to analyze the potential environmental consequences of constructing an H-70 fuel storage facility and a medical pharmacy. Under the no action alternative, the H-70 fuel storage facility and the medical pharmacy would not be constructed and activities would remain at current locations.
