Environmental Assessment for Railroad Disposition

Abstract

The purpose of the action alternatives would be to dispose of the railroad located on Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. The railroad on this property is an asset that needs to be kept in good repair if it is going to be retained for possible future use. Because there is no foreseeable Base mission that would require a railroad, Ellsworth Air Force Base is proposing the disposal of the railroad tracks. In addition, as required by the Council for Environmental Quality regulations implementing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA, CPR 40 Parts 1500-1508), the No Action alternative was also analyzed. Under this alternative, the United States Air Force would not dispose of the railroad.
