AlphaACT
Abstract
In this Small Business Innovation Research Phase II project, AIphaTRAC's goal was to revolutionize crisis decision-making by developing a radically innovative approach to training. The AlphaACT(registered tradename) decision support system is a platform technology used as the basis for web-based training applications. The training applications use varying levels of immersion to provide the engagement necessary for effective training on decision-making skills. Based on the recognition-primed decision model, AlphaACT applications employ a pattern recognition engine to help the decision maker quickly choose a case on which to base an appropriate course of action. In this Phase II project, AIphaTRAC: 1) Built core components and integrated them into the AlphaACT platform; 2) Developed three discipline-specific applications for asymmetric combat, HAZMAT emergency response, and firefighting response; and 3) Developed two applications to gather and archive event experiences for populating the application knowledge bases and developing training scenarios. All of these applications have been transitioned and fielded or commercialized, with the exception of the asymmetric combat application. This application is scheduled to transition to operation under a U.S. Marine Corps Program of Record by the end of fiscal year 2014.
