Advanced System for the Retrieval of Spectral Beam Attenuation Coefficient (c)

Abstract

The long-term goal of this project is to have an advanced algorithm for beam attenuation coefficient (c) from ocean color remote sensing, an algorithm that can be implemented to process satellite imagery for Navy applications. The primary objectives of this research are: 1) to identify the most significant proxy (or proxies) that can be used to represent the change of backscattering (bb) to scattering (b) ratio (i.e., bb/b); and 2) to develop an algorithm that can be used with data from satellite ocean color remote sensing to provide needed global coverages of beam attenuation coefficient.
