Observed Near-Surface Currents Four Super Typhoons

Abstract

The characteristics of current velocities in the upper ocean under moving tropical cyclones (TCs) were obtained in many theoretical, observational, and numerical studies. Direct current measurements under TCs during their passages include moored current meters, airborne expendable current profilers (AXCPs), drifting buoys, electromagnetic-autonomous profiling explorer (EM-APEX) floats, Surface Velocity Program( SVP) (Niiler, 2001) drifters, and acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs).
