Measurement of Forces and Moments Transmitted to the Residual Limb

Abstract

The goal of the research is to determine if the forces and moments measured by a tri-axial transducer mounted on the pylon of a transtibial prosthesis distal to the socket can be used to estimate the intra-socket pressures and evaluate the effects of different activities, components, and alignments on the residual limb. To date, the instrumentation has been obtained and set up, a systematic review of the literature has been undertaken, the experiments have been designed, a methodology for measuring an alignment has been developed, and IRB approval has been obtained.
