AGOR 28: SIO Shipyard Representative Bi-Weekly Progress Report
Abstract
Progress on the building of AGOR 28, oceanographic research vessel Sally Ride. Work continues 1) reviewing Vendor Recommended Spares (VRS); 2) reviewing Technical Manuals and Supplemental Information; 3) work on initial outfitting lists for Sally Ride; and working on NS5 Hierarchy. Design Review at Anacortes. A conference call was held to allow the government and operators to question Siemens about load sheading. The Power Management System software can be configured to provide load sheading, however the shunt trips and cabling would have to be installed to make it operational. Work is ongoing to identify likely circuits for load sheading. These include the two Chiller units and the two 100-kw chill water heaters for HVAC winter operation. New for this reporting period DCI is installing the hardware (cables and shut trips) to the two Chiller breakers as per the contract requirement. The government is working on pricing a proposed WTA to add three additional shut trips to the two 100-kw HVAC heaters and the galley equipment breakers. Main Crane Towing & Coring Crutch The crutch assembly being provided by Allied Systems needs to be demonstrated to prove that it can be used in a safe and practical way. Tuff-Mass MLV and Acoustic Tiles - Awaiting resolution of smoke and flammability issues. Since the last report, the yard has informed that Pyrotek has been working with USCG to come up with approved installation techniques for their MLV product. According to Pyrotek/DCI, they are anticipating an adjudication letter related to the above. This does not mean it will be approved, but they apparently have been working closely with USCG on how to handle this. Sally Ride 690-volt switchboard is buttoned up and near 100% complete. Work continues on the 480-volt switchboard and propulsion drives. Electricians have started hook ups in the various control system cabinets throughout the vessel.
