Ocean Acoustics Turbulence Study

Abstract

The long-term goal is to develop tools and techniques to remotely quantify the three-dimensional spectrum of scalar and vector ocean turbulence using high frequency broadband multi-static acoustic scatter from medium variability. The objectives are to validate the application of far-field weak scattering theory to thermal-saline turbulent jets and compare the acoustic spectral estimates with the universal gradient spectral model for the inertial and Batchelor sub-ranges.
