Safe Surgery Trainer
Abstract
Program Management Ongoing communication and project management with project team and sub-contractors. Ongoing outreach with medical centers (see below). Ongoing project management according to Alion s CMMI Level 3 processes. i) Coordinated and conducted I/ITSEC field study. See Research Studies below. Managed IRB protocols - established, approved, and followed. ii) Continued coordinating of technology transfer, surgical visitation, and study participation. iii) Ongoing interactions with medical representatives that were interested in or attended the SST StoryJam. StoryJam Participating organizations included: Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Langley AFB Hospital, Fort Eustis McDonald Healthcare, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Maryview Hospital, Mary Immaculate Hospital, and the Children s Hospital of the King s Daughters. iv) Continued outreach to the VA, Navy, Army, Airforce, and civilian healthcare organizations to encourage participation and alignment. b) Prototype Development Finalization of Iteration One in preparation for field study at I/ITSEC. Preparation, travel, and setup/support of the I/ITSEC demo. Post I/ITSEC, the team continued work to identify areas for improvement and begin preparation for Iteration 2, including work on the missions, environmental art, and user interface. c) Instructional Design and Healthcare Research Finalized development and refinement of first three scenarios to ensure gameplay and conversations match the learning objectives in preparation for the I/ITSEC study. Created first draft of scenario four involving detailed timelines, character interaction, and plot chronology. Continued reviewing and updating the terminal and enabling Learning Objectives (see below).
