Purification and Characterization of Methyl Phthalyl Ethyl Glycolate (MPEG)

Abstract

We report the purification of methyl phthalyl ethyl glycolate (MPEG) by flash column chromatography (ca. grams), allowing us to establish an analytically pure standard using EA, KF, GC, and GC-MS analyses. The purified MPEG was fully characterized using H1 and C13 NMR, IR, UV-Vis, bp, and HRMS analyses. Using this standard, routine GC analysis can be performed to determine the purity with a high degree of confidence of various lots of MPEG, improving the quality control for formulations containing MPEG.
