ARO Summary Research Report (University of Michigan)

Abstract

During the reporting period, we have continued our research combining experimental, computational, and mathematical methods to explore the interplay between cultural and institutions. We have written papers, given presentations both in the United States and internationally, hosted a conference, and presented parts of our findings to government agencies and members of the business communities. Our findings demonstrate strong linkages between institutional choices and what is often characterized as cultural, i.e. non optimal behavior. Our research suggest an alternative to accounts of suboptimal behavior based on biases. Moreover, our research contributes to an understanding of how to choose institutions.
