AGOR 28: SIO Shipyard Representative Bi-Weekly Progress Report
Abstract
Progress on the building of AGOR 28, oceanographic research vessel Sally Ride. Work continues on initial outfitting lists for Sally Ride and NS5 Hierarchy. The yard is continuing to install the Quad-zero MLV in various locations throughout Sally Ride. DCI is holding off on installing any new insulation in the machinery spaces where dampening tiles are still exposed. For this reporting period, DCI has removed 100% of the dampening tiles from the Bow Thruster Room. Exposed areas were sanded to fair in the glue residue and the affected areas were primed. Ship Service Diesel Generator Emergency Shutdowns issue remains open and must be retested to prove that it works. Work continues on completing the exhaust system insulation. DCI may be a bit behind schedule with this work. It needs to be completed prior to any prolonged running of the engines. Cummins Northwest has been aboard prepping the diesel engines. Dockside testing of Armstrong s CAST6 winches and their associated handling devices revealed that when either Handling Device is deployed, the cable goes hard up against the retaining pin at the top of the outboard turning block. Issue is still open. Markey to be on site next week for more tuning. The baffles are installed but with little reduction in Armstrong's main deck noise levels.
