AGOR 28: SIO Shipyard Representative Bi-Weekly Progress Report

Abstract

Progress on the building of AGOR 28, oceanographic research vessel Sally Ride. Work continues on initial outfitting lists for Sally Ride and NS5 Hierarchy. Ship Service Diesel Generator Emergency Shutdowns: For Ride, prior to load banking, the local emergency stops on each engine were tested. The individual breakers opened immediately upon activation. More testing will be required to ensure the Pilot House shutdowns also work as well. This issue has also been corrected on Armstrong. During load bank testing of the Generator Sets, the noise profile on Ride's back deck was very similar to that found on Armstrong. Dockside testing of Armstrong's CAST6 winches and their associated handling devices revealed that when either Handling Device is deployed, the cable goes hard up against the retaining pin at the top of the outboard turning block. Issue is still open.
