Status Survey of Bunkers 738A and 825A at Spangdahlem AB, Germany

Abstract

The United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Consultative Services Division (USAFSAM/OEC), performed a final status survey (FSS) of two former depleted uranium (DU) storage bunkers located on Spangdahlem AB, Germany. Laboratory analysis of swipe samples showed that residual removable activity did not exceed the derived concentration guideline level (DCGL) of 1,000 disintegrations per minute/100 square centimeters (dpm/100 cm2). Floor scanning and static measurements showed that total activity did not exceed the DCGL of 5,000 dpm/100 cm2. Based on these findings, both bunkers met the criteria for unrestricted release as specified in AFI 48-148.
