Technical Basis for Expedited Processing of Radiation Dose Assessments for NTPR Hiroshima and Nagasaki Participants

Abstract

This report provides the technical basis for development and use of radiation doses for use in expedited processing of Radiation Dose Assessments (RDAs) for Hiroshima and Nagasaki (H&N) veterans in the Nuclear Test Personnel Review (NTPR) Program. The report describes the general nature of RDAs currently conducted for H&N veterans, and the approach used to define three expedited processing groups (EPGs) to include virtually all H&N veterans, including occupation forces and prisoners of war in or near Hiroshima or Nagasaki, Japan in 1945-1946. The report discusses the technical methods and assumptions used for estimating "maximized dose" and upper-bound external, internal, skin, and eye lens doses for each EPG. The results of the dose assessment for each EPG are presented and discussed.
