Systemic Assurance

Abstract

The Systemic Assurance project is to improve the level of assurance and the efficacy and efficiency through which it is achieved. The project is advancing four technical themes related to improving assurance capability: enable composition of assurance judgments for components, use of semantics-based techniques, and integrate methods for requirements of heterogeneous systems. Develop baseline and intervention models for a selection of current standards and practices with DoD stakeholders. This baselining effort is essential to support a measurement-based approach to documenting the impact of the proposed new interventions: Integrating improved capability for traceability and evidence management though integrated development environments with minimal team practice disruption. Implement experiments using assurance-related reasoning for rapid recertification particularly those with externally developed components. Develop a framework for assessment of architecture-derived quality attributes. Develop requirements and management approaches for assurance objectives. Augment existing efforts to address particular quality criteria particularly those outside conventional testing techniques. Identify and advance areas in support of increasing automation with immediate rewards. A key area of emphasis is to continue refinement of the meta-criteria and initiate validation with subject-matter experts. These will lead to a concept document describing potential new-generation assurance practices and incentives.
