Abstract
An understanding of the origin and nature of the sudden transition in the local weather from clear skies to dense stratus clouds that often occurs during the spring and summer along the west coast of the U.S.. To develop a correct fluid-dynamical understanding of the coastal flows that bring about such sudden transitions.
