Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal School Master Development Plan for Test Area D-51, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida

Abstract

Due to an approved increase in the overall size of the U.S. Army, a higher number of students are scheduled to attend the NAVSCOLEOD which trains all DoD EOD personnel. The Navy and international community also have a requirement to increase the number of students scheduled to attend the NAVSCOLEOD. The increase in student numbers would occur over a four-year period from fiscal year (FY) 2008 to FY 2011. New facilities and practical areas will be required to accommodate the increases in student population. The Navy and Air Force identified a need for a Master Development Plan to guide the future expansion of facilities at T A D-51. The purpose of this action is to update NAVSCOLEOD facilities at TA D-51 in order to accommodate this increase in students. These new facilities would support the training requirements of the Navy, Army, and international students required to attend Navy EOD School. The new buildings and training areas would be located in a secure environment within T A D-51, near already existing classrooms, practical training areas and support facilities (e.g., maintenance and mess hall buildings). TAD-51 is the only viable location for these facilities as it already serves this purpose and is located 12 miles driving distance (approximately 30 minutes travel time) from nearby classroom and dormitory facilities on a portion of Eglin Main Base.
